Setting up your name server is required so that you can link your domain name to the nameservers on your webhost. This will enable your visitors to access your web site hosted on your web server when they type in your domain name on their browser.

Below are the steps to set up your domain name server:

Step 1: When you purchase a domain name from Godaddy, they will send you an email providing information on the registration of your domain name. Open the email and click on the link provided to go to the Godaddy site to set up your nameservers. When you are on the site, logon with your customer number and password to go to the Account Manager page which should display all the domains that you purchased from them. Select the domain name that you want to set the nameservers to your hostinig account  server by clicking the “Details” hyperlink:

Step 2: In the screen below, click the “Nameservers” hyperlink.

Step 3: When you click the “Custom nameservers” button, the screen will display the nameserver boxes. Insert the particulars of your hosting company’s nameservers (as per your hosting company’s email confirmation sent to you when you open a hosting account with them) into the boxes provided and click the “OK” button.

Once done, Godaddy will display a screen to inform you that your changes (change their defaulted DNS server to yours) have been submitted which will take a few minutes for the changes to take effect.
