All your Wordpress functionalities are working well and you are tempted to upgrade your WP version – Is it then necessary to update to a newer version when it is available?

The following may answer your question: “upgrade or not”?:

1. Why fix something when it is not broken?

2. The new wp version may not be stable as it is not really fully tested by a lot of users. It may not work as you have expected after you have installed it. For example, your existing plugins may not work with the new version or images could not be uploaded from your computer into your post as in the recent 2.5 and 2.5.1 release.

3. A lot of time will be wasted searching for ways to rectify the problem(s) which you could use for other productive activities.

Unless there is a serious security flaw in my existing Wordpress version and I have sensitive data in my site would I seriously consider updating my WP version. I would rather wait for the new version to be stabilised before updating the same. It is not fun to upgrade and then downgrade my Wordpress version especially when I have a lot of data on my site – unexpected things may happen during the process!

Again, why fix it when it is not broken!
